AC Milan reduced the gap to seven points behind Inter Milan at the top of the Italian league on Sunday, beating their city rivals 1-0 in the derby of the 28th round.

A goal from Ecuadorian Pervis Estupiñán (35 minutes), scoring his first goal, gave the Rossoneri the victory, keeping them unbeaten against the Nerazzurri since April 2024, with a total of five wins and two draws, and they hadn’t won both derbies in the same season of the championship since 2010/11.

The Nerazzurri hadn’t lost in the competition precisely since the first-round derby (1-0), in the 12th round, but they remain in a favorable position to regain the championship title, with 10 rounds remaining.

Fresh off their Champions League play-off elimination by Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt, Sporting’s opponents in the Round of 16, Inter were coming off a draw away to Como (0-0) on Tuesday in the first leg of the Italian Cup semi-finals.
