Cristiano Ronaldo reached a historic milestone during Portugal’s emphatic victory over Uzbekistan. He is the only player to score goals in six World Cups. A story that began in 2006. Another goal in 2010. One more in 2014. Four in 2018. One in 2022. Only the 2026 World Cup remained.
At 41, Cristiano Ronaldo headed to that tournament in pursuit of records and a first-ever title for Portugal. He disappointed in the opening match a draw against the Democratic Republic of the Congo so fans were looking for a response from the superstar against Uzbekistan.
On the list of the tournament’s all-time top scorers, Ronaldo moved up to 17th place, tying with Brazilians Vavá and Jairzinho, Germans Uwe Seeler and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Italians Paolo Rossi, Roberto Baggio, and Christian Vieri, and Spaniard David Villa.
The Portuguese forward needs one more goal to break into the top 10, joining Germans Helmut Rahn and Thomas Müller, Peruvian Teófilo Cubillas (formerly of FC Porto), Pole Grzegorz Lato, Englishmen Gary Lineker and Harry Kane, and Argentine Gabriel Batistuta.
