Everything is ready for the official start of the 2026 football season in the country. The Mário Esteves Coluna Super Cup marks the official opening of the season, and the Mozambican Football Federation has already set the date and location for its realization.
Thus, March 22nd is the date set for the dispute of the first official trophy of the season, and it will be contested by União Desportiva do Songo, as national champion, which achieved the double by also winning the Mozambique Cup, and Associação Black Bulls, runner-up in the Mozambique Cup.
The match will take place at the “Caldeirão” in Chiveve, at 3:00 PM, a clear indication that the National Football Championship, the Moçambola, should start on the last weekend of March or the first of April.
In the 2026/27 season, both teams will represent the country in African competitions, namely the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup, also known as the CAF Cup or Nelson Mandela Cup.
Black Bulls last won the competition in 2024 and União Desportiva do Songo in 2023. Ferroviário de Maputo is the current holder of the title, after defeating Black Bulls last year, while Costa do Sol is the team with the most wins, 11 in total.
