Florentino Pérez is re-elected president of Real Madrid

The first election in 20 years ended on Sunday night and was marked by promises of multi-million dollar signings; Florentino will reach 27 years in charge of the club.
Florentino Pérez will continue as president of Real Madrid for the next four years.

The current leader, 79, was re-elected this Sunday for the fifth consecutive time, after 11 hours of voting at the club’s headquarters. Enrique Riquelme, a 37-year-old businessman and the only competitor, was defeated in the club’s first presidential election since 2006. According to Spanish newspapers, Florentino won with about 67% of the votes.

Florentino now reaches eight terms at the head of Real, the last six consecutively. Twice, he called early elections at the club: in 2006, he resigned from his second term due to a financial crisis at the club, and this time he decided to call a new election just a year and a half after the last election, at the beginning of 2025.

Those responsible for deciding the future of Real Madrid were the more than 30,000 members who attended the club’s vote this year. Although they represent only a third of the 90,000 members of legal age eligible to vote, Sunday’s voters may have set a new record, surpassing the 33,116 present at Florentino Pérez’s first election in 2000.
