Chinese snowboarder Su Yiming is already a regular on the podium in men’s snowboard slopestyle. Meanwhile, Japanese Fukada Mari will be making her podium debut in major events in the women’s competition. Both athletes won gold medals in the discipline at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics on Wednesday, February 18th.
In the men’s tournament, the representative from the People’s Republic of China had the highest score among the twelve finalists with 82.41 points on his first run. He was only 0.28 points behind Japan’s Hasegawa Taiga, the silver medalist. American Jake Canter won the bronze medal with 79.36.
Among the women, the competition was intense. The Japanese skater improved her score on her final run and, with 87.83, secured the victory. New Zealander Zoi Sadowsky Synnott reached 87.48 on her final run and took silver. Murase Kokomo of Japan took bronze with 85.80 – only two points separated the top three finishers.
This was Su Yiming’s fourth podium finish in four events at the Winter Olympic Games. Gold in big air and silver in slopestyle at Beijing 2022, he took bronze at Milano Cortina 2026 before securing his second gold medal now. He had already won silver in snowboard slopestyle at the 2025 World Championships and is leading both disciplines this World Cup season.
Fukada Mari achieved her first major career victory. Despite winning bronze in big air at the 2025 World Championships, in slopestyle she finished fourth in 2025 and fifth in 2023. In World Cup events, she has only one victory in the discipline (in the 2024/2025 season) and at Milano Cortina 2026 she finished only ninth in her main specialty.
The two slopestyle events on Wednesday, the 18th, concluded the snowboard program at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
