German tennis player Alexander Zverev, a finalist in 2024, qualified for the round of 16 at Roland Garros this Friday after defeating Frenchman Quentin Halys in the third round of the second Grand Slam of the season.
Zverev, ranked fourth in the world, beat Halys, ranked 90th, 6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in three hours and seven minutes, securing his ninth consecutive qualification for the round of 16 in Paris, where he only fell once, in 2020.
In the next round, Zverev, the highest-ranked player still in the competition, will face Dutchman Jesper de Jong, who defeated Russian Karen Khachanov (15th) and became the third “lucky loser” to reach the round of 16 at Roland Garros in the Open Era and the first since David Goffin in 2012.
