Thus, after eight seasons in which Mamelodi Sundowns won the title, Orlando Pirates were once again victorious in South Africa, securing their fifth title.
Mamelodi Sundowns, coached by Miguel Cardoso, won 3-0 against Polokwane City in the final match, but the result was insufficient, as they needed their rivals to slip up to take first place.
Orlando Pirates finished in first place with 69 points in 30 games, just one more than Mamelodi Sundowns. Miguel Cardoso’s team will now play the second leg of the African Champions League final against FAR Rabat, after winning the first leg.
